Al-Shams Hospital

The Overview of Al-Shams Hospital

Good Health and Well-being aims to ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all. It emphasizes the facility’s role in providing free healthcare services to the community since 2007.

History and Contributions of Al Shams Hospital

Established in 2007, Al Shams Hospital has been a key healthcare provider in the community, offering free treatments, especially in eye care. The hospital was built on land donated by Mr. Shamsuddin Sheikh, and from 2007 to 2013, it treated over 69,000 patients, including 1,000 cataract surgeries. The hospital’s efforts align with SDG 3.8 by ensuring accessible, affordable healthcare for the community.

Hospital Expansion and COVID-19 Support

To meet growing healthcare needs, the hospital underwent reconstruction between 2014 and 2019. Mr. Shamsuddin Sheikh contributed both land and financial resources for this expansion. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the hospital played a crucial role in providing healthcare services and oxygen cylinders, aligning with SDG 3.9.

Future Plans and Contributions to SDG 3

Al Shams Hospital plans to expand its services by establishing the B.B. Fatimah Laboratory and Blood Bank, contributing to SDG 3.3 by improving access to essential medicines. Additionally, the hospital aims to become a training institute, offering medical courses such as nursing and technician programs, supporting SDG 3.c by strengthening the healthcare workforce.
